Add-On Designs may be purchased separately, and are added in ProPhoto to provide a specific look & feel that you can personalize.
How do Add-On Designs work?
WordPress is a CMS (content management system) which stores all the blog posts, web pages, and comments – your site content. ProPhoto is installed as the theme in a WordPress setup, applying your site style to your content.
Your settings are stored in ProPhoto as your design, which can be changed any time. And since ProPhoto designs can be exported and imported, this makes it possible to copy designs to other sites.
Add-On Designs are simply exported designs that are ready to be personalized in ProPhoto – think of each as a preset of graphics and settings you can tweak. Buy an add-on design for your ProPhoto setup, and make as few or as many changes as you want to suit your brand.
Can I personalize an add-on design?
Absolutely! As discussed in the previous question, a “Design” in ProPhoto is really just a set of customizations within ProPhoto – think of an add-on design as a preset. No matter which design you have activated in ProPhoto, you still have full access to all of the options within ProPhoto to tweak the add-on design as much, or as little as you’d like.
For example, if you like how a particular design looks, but you want to change the navigation menu, you’re in control. Using the ProPhoto Menus tools, you’ll be able to customize how your own menu system looks and works. Each add-on design has it’s own default menu settings, but you can edit them however you’d like!
Or, let’s say you really like a design but want to change the background of a particular area to a different graphic you have that you like better, not a problem. Again, using the ProPhoto customization options, you’ll be able to replace any add-on design default background with your own image.
ProPhoto add-on designs cannot be used as standalone themes in WordPress, so you’ll need ProPhoto installed as your theme to use any design.
Can I change colors in an add-on design?
Yes. ProPhoto gives you control to change colors in each design. So you’ll be able to change everything right in ProPhoto.
And for any special graphics used in a design, a corresponding PSD Photoshop file should be included so you can alter the colors used in backgrounds and other graphics. (See question below)
You can simply open the files in Photoshop, edit them however you’d like, export your modified image, and then upload your replacement in the respective ProPhoto customize area. All Designs include instructions as well, giving you additional detail on where to locate these images, as well as basic instructions for editing in Photoshop.
Do I need Photoshop to work with add-on designs?
Photoshop is not required unless specifically noted on an add-on design.
In some designs, a specific image layout or graphic template may be provided in PSD format to make it easier to recreate a particular look in the design.
You can download an Adobe Photoshop trial, which may suit your needs while doing the initial customization of your design. Or, you may consider using image software that is able to edit PSD file types, such as free software like The GIMP to work on graphics for your site design.
Of course, you can always replace a design’s images & graphics with your own creation, made with any image software you like to use, so owning Photoshop isn’t necessarily required – even though it may make working with graphics and images easier.
Are add-on designs refundable?
No, we do not provide refunds on add-on designs. This is to help protect the rights of the designers who spend many hours creating the designs.
WHY?
The designs you see in our design store were not created by us, they were created by independent small business owners like you. Within the first year or so of selling premium designs, we found that a certain percentage of our users were liberally purchasing designs and then asking for refunds, as a way of trying out the designs. The problem with this is that it is very hard for us to verify that you’ve deleted the design and are not using any of the additional resources that came with your download. And during the experimental period, we found that a large load of support and administration was created for us and our designers.
ANY EXCEPTIONS?
The only exception we make is that if you purchase ProPhoto and a design, and decide not to use ProPhoto and ask for a refund, in that case we will also refund (at 100%) the accompanying design purchase. But, if you’re not also getting a refund for ProPhoto, we don’t support refunds for designs.
