retina display

Apple’s newer iMac, MacBook, iPad, and iPhone devices include extra-high resolution screens, capable of displaying more dots/pixels per inch (DPI/PPI) for a higher quality viewing experience. They call this a Retina® display, but the generic term is simply high-density display, and is not limited to Apple products. Many computers, tablets, and phones now offer similar/higher screen pixel densities.

These screens are particularly helpful for text and other vector-based details, but can also improve the appearance of images by displaying them with greater clarity and fidelity than comparably-sized screens of lower pixel density.
