Each ProPhoto setup requires you to have at least:
- A domain name
- Website hosting
- WordPress platform
- ProPhoto theme software
Domain names are often free for the first year when you create a new hosting account, and roughly $10 per year after that (pricing varies).
Website hosting varies greatly, but a typical basic plan will cost you an average of $6 per month. Hosting is typically pre-paid for a period of 12, 24, or 36 months, and you get a better deal for paying up-front for a longer term. Shop around for a good deal. We recommend HostPapa as a good value.
The WordPress platform is free software installed on your web hosting server. Don’t worry, install is pretty simple and can be completed even before you purchase ProPhoto. Just be aware that wordpress.com is something different and can’t really be be used with ProPhoto, unless you use their expensive Business plan option. As such, a self-hosted WordPress setup is necessary.
Our ProPhoto software is used as the theme in a WordPress setup. It provides all the style and layout for you, and also gives you control to make any changes to how WordPress looks.
No problem. If your hosting company supports WordPress installations, you can install WordPress in addition to your existing site. For example, you might decide to use WordPress to create a blog, and use your existing site for the portfolio and website content. Or, you might decide to install WordPress, design your new setup, and then replace your site with WordPress.
Or, if your hosting company does not support WordPress installations, you can buy new website hosting from a compatible hosting company. Use it in addition to your existing site, or use it to switch your web host so that WordPress replaces your old site when you’re ready.
ProPhoto is purchased once as a licensed software you may use indefinitely. We charge no recurring fees to use ProPhoto.
As we develop new versions of ProPhoto, you will have the option to purchase newer releases of ProPhoto at a discounted price as a returning user. But this is always optional.
Your only recurring fees are for your domain name and web hosting services that are needed to run ProPhoto online.
Yes, you are allowed to have two installations from one purchase. For more information, see our usage policy for multiple installations.
