Change your site address

Home » Hosting & domain » Change your site address

NOTE: This tutorial is about changing the address of your blog while staying at the same web hosting account. If you are trying to move your blog to a new web hosting account, these directions won’t work, you need this guide instead: Move WordPress to a different host

For clarity, we will break down the change of your site address into 4 different scenarios:

  1. Moving your site from a subdirectory to your main address
    (e.g. www.my-domain.com/blog to www.my-domain.com)
  2. Moving your site from your main address to a subdirectory
    (e.g. www.my-domain.com to www.my-domain.com/blog)
  3. Changing the name of the WordPress installation folder
    (e.g. www.my-domain.com/wordpress to www.my-domain.com/blog)
  4. Switching your website to a new domain
    (e.g. www.my-old-domain.com/blog to www.my-new-domain.com/blog,
    or www.my-old-domain.com to www.my-new-domain.com)
Carefully review all the steps in the tutorial first, before you attempt on your own . If you miss a step or do something out of order you may end up with a broken blog until we get a chance to help you. Also be aware that changes to your domain name affect SEO, so be sure to heed our advice at the end about setting up a redirect.
